What is the rationale for the use of the terms Hawzah and Univesity in the title of this research institute?
One of the reasons relates to the history of the research institute:
·         RIHU was established in 1982 initially as “The Office for Hawzah and University Cooperation” with the aim of implementing the preliminary plan of reconstructing human sciences. The society of lecturers of Qom seminary (Hawzah) developed the plan at behest of the Headquarter of the Cultural Revolution and after its approval the plan was confirmed by Imam Khomeini.
·         After a period of successful functioning, the office for Hawzah and university cooperation officially became a collaborator for The Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in the Humanities (Samt).
·         In 1998, after 9 years of close cooperation with Samt, it joined the institutes functioning under the auspices of Ministry of Higher Education with the approval of the council of development of higher education due to its significant success in research and publication of books and scientific works.
·         In 2003, following another short but fruitful term of research endeavor and production of scientific works, the research center was promoted as Hawzah and Univesity Research Institute.
·         In 2004, it became the Research Institute for Hawzah and University (RIHU).
Another reason relates to the academic staff of the institute. Faculty members of RIHU are chosen from among those who have academic education besides Islamic seminary education.
