A summary of proceedings, developments and achievements of RIHU, during 30 years of scientific production, is reviewed below:

Imam Khomeini (R.A.) on June 12, 1980 issued a decree for establishment of Cultural Revolution Headquarters. These headquarters were charged to take measures in planning the Islamization of universities. Following Imam Khomeini's decree to benefit from Qom seminary's (Hawzah) elites in planning humanities' disciplines, as requested by the head office of the Cultural Revolution, Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom planned a program concerning all subjects in various courses of humanities and social sciences and for the cultural policy of the universities in future on the basis of Islamic culture and values through selection of efficient, committed and vigilant professors and for other issues relevant to the Islamic academic revolution.

Aiming for the execution of a preliminary plan for "reconstruction of human sciences based on Islamic teachings", the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom in collaboration with Dar Rahe Hagh Institute provided the establishment plan of "the Office of Hawzah and University Cooperation" in 1982. After confirmation of the head office, this plan was also approved by Imam Khomeini (R.A.). The first term of the office activity lasted about 15 months and consisted of three stages. Most efforts of the office during this period was focused on investigation and critique of human sciences' principles and foundations for holding seminars and conferences in defense of Islamic human sciences. Some of the Office achievements in this period are as follows:

  • Revision and restoration of seven major humanities disciplines including: economics, sociology, law, political sciences, psychology and educational sciences,

  •  Planning theological courses based on the Holy Quran for the university professors,

  • Holding 170 meetings and seminars with the aim of criticizing the basics of western human sciences,

  • Compilation of 179 treatises on  key issues of six humanities disciplines,

In 1990 following a period of successful activity, "the Office of Hawzah and University Cooperation" was officially accepted as one of the establishments cooperating with "the Organization for Studying and Compilation of University textbooks in Human Sciences " (SAMT). In this term, the most striking efforts of the office were as follows:

  • Training human resources knowledgeable in both Hawzah and university sciences,

  • Interaction with country's organizations, institutes and centers to analyze and meet their needs,

  • Establishment of six departments including psychology, educational sciences, management, law, history and sociology and training 40 clerics of Qom seminary to obtain  M.A. in various related branches of humanities and social sciences,

  • Publication of "Quarterly Journal of  Hawzah and University",

  • Establishment and preparation of a specialized library to meet the goals of this movement and developing information and communication technology,

  • Providing a schema of a research and education organization to promote the support and provide better funding,

In 1999 following a period of fruitful activity, due to its remarkable success in research and production of books and scientific researches, as supported by the Supreme Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution, endorsed by the High Council of Qom Seminary and with ratification of the Council of Development of Higher Education, "the Office of Hawzah and University Cooperation" under the title of "the Research Circle of Hawzah and University" was officially accepted as one of the establishments and a body affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. After the second short period of prominent and fruitful research and scientific activities in 2003, it was given the title of "Research Center of Hawzah and University" and finally in 2004 was named "Research Institute of Hawzah and University".

The Research Institute thereby consists of three separate centers: "Research Center of Social Sciences", "Research Center of Behavioral Sciences" and "Research Center of Islamic Sciences". All these three research centers are working on proposals and production of scientific-research topics. In this era, through the development and promotion of the Office to Institute great achievements had arisen. Though limitations such as space, hindered development. Hence, the RIHU's new building, located in Qom, constructed with a total area of  35000 m2  and the substructure of 18000 m2 and was launched in 2009.

So far this Research Institute thereby containing three research centers and eleven departments with the assistance of 50 faculty members and 70 researchers with educations both at Hawzah and university levels and 50 administrative and research staffs in various fields feels a commitment to university and Hawzah members, and at the same time tries to meet the needs of both the system and Islamic society to make its scientific achievements accessible to all researchers and those who are interested, in any suitable form of books, essays, research, educational and advisory services, etc. Some of the achievements of the Institute in this period are as follows:
