دوره امام صادق(ع) با تحولات سیاسی و ظهور گروه‌های متعدد با هدف براندازی نظام سیاسی حاکم روبرو بود و جامعه اسلامی شکل جدیدی از نظام سیاسی را تجربه می‌کرد. هریک از گروه‌های برانداز و نیز حکومت عباسی مطالباتی از امام صادق(ع) داشتند و برای آن حضرت مشکل‌آفرین بودند. امام(ع) با شناخت دقیق از شرایط و اقتضاءات زمانی، نقش راهبردی خود را در عرصه‎ سیاسی نشان داد. حضرت حاکمان ستمگر را به‌رسمیت نشناخت، مبارزه مسلحانه را نافرجام ‌خواند، از قیام‌ها حمایت مالی و معنوی نکرد و با مبارزه علمی ـ  فرهنگی تحولی عمیق و پایدار در جامعه بنیان نمود. تحقیق پیش‌رو، سیره سیاسی آن امام(ع) را با استفاده از همه ظرفیت‌های پژوهشی و منابع گوناگون با رویکردی تحلیلی و انتقادی مطالعه می‎‌کند و تلاش دارد با شناسائی بسترهای تاریخی، ناپیموده‌‏‎هایی را بپیماید تا شاید‌ به واقعیاتی از زندگانی حضرت دست‌ یابد. این نوشتار با چنین چشماندازی، حکومت، بایسته‌ها و نبایسته‌های آن و نیز مناسبات حضرت با عباسیان و علویان را براساس اصل عزت، حکمت و دفاع از خاندان رسالت بررسی می‌کند.

The era of Imam Sadiq (a.s.) was facing political changes and rise of many groups with the aim of overthrowing the ruling political system and Islamic society was experiencing the new form of political system. Each of the subversive groups and also Abbasid government had demands from Imam Sadiq (a.s.) and were troublesome for him. Imam (a.s.) showed his strategic role in the political arena with the accurate understanding of the conditions and requirements of the time. Imam did not recognize the oppressive rulers, described the armed struggle inconclusive, did not provide financial and spiritual support to the uprisings, and established a deep and stable evolution in the society with the scientific-cultural struggle. The present research studies the political biography of Imam (a.s.) using all research capacities and various sources with an analytical and critical approach and also tries to walk in unexplored paths by identifying the historical contexts so that it may reach new facts of the Imam's life. With such a perspective, this article examines the government and its do's and don'ts as well as Imam's relations with the Abbasids and Alawites based on the principle of honor, wisdom and defense of the Prophet's family.
