در ایران معاصر، ما نه شناختی درخور از دیدگاه‌ها و رویکردهای غربی درباره هویت و تحولات علوم تربیتی مدرن داریم و نه آگاهی عمیقی از چارچوب‌های فکری ـ فلسفی و وابستگی‌های فرهنگی ـ تاریخی آنها. از منظر اسلامی ـ بومی نیز از یک سو، ارتباط اندکی میان علوم تربیتی ایران معاصر با چارچوب‌های فکری ـ معرفتیِ مورد پذیرش جامعه‌ اسلامی برقرار است و از سوی دیگر، بخش‌ عمده این علوم، در فضای فرهنگی و تاریخیِ جامعه‌ ایرانی و ناظر به فهم و حل اصیل مسائل معاصر آموزشی و پرورشیِ آن شکل نیافته‌اند. این وضعیت، یکی از مهم‌ترین دلایل بی‌پاسخ ماندن این پرسش مهمِ کنشگران تربیت است: «برای تحلیل و تدبیر مسائل تربیتی‌مان، از چه دانش‌هایی باید استفاده کنیم؟»
کتاب حاضر، سعی کرده ضمن تحلیل هویت علوم‌تربیتی مدرن، ظرفیت‌ها و فعلیت‌های جدیدی را ـ با نظر به سنت حکمت اسلامی ـ  برای بازسازی علوم تربیت اسلامی آشکار نموده و خطوط کلی ایده‌ای درباره‌ هویت این علوم را پیش نهد که حداقل بتواند درک ما از پیش‌شرط‌های مورد نیاز برای پاسخ به پرسش پیش‌گفته رشد دهد.

n Contemporary Iran, we have neither an adequate understanding of the Western traditions and transformations of Educational Science, nor a deep insight about its intellectual roots and cultural contexts. On the other hand, contemporary modern educational science in Iran lacks a strong connection with the intellectual frameworks accepted by the Islamic society and most of it has not been developed in the cultural context of Iran and in order to explain and resolve its original problems. Because of this -among other reasons- this important question is not answered adequately yet: "What kinds of sciences do WE need to analyze and address our educational problems?"
This book, after analyzing the nature of modern educational science, sheds light on new actualities and potentialities of the Islamic theosophical tradition for re-constructing a contemporary version of Islamic educational science and tries to draw the outlines of an idea about this science that could -at least- elevate our understanding about the needed preliminaries for answering the aforementioned question.
