زندگی امام عسکری (ع) به‌ویژه بررسی دقیق‌تر و پرداختن به برخی از زوایای زنـدگی آن حضـرت، با توجـه به اختـناق شـدید و دشـواری‌های دوران زنـدگی امام عسکری (ع) از جمله مسائلی است که کمتر مطرح شده است. از‌ این‌رو تبیین وضعیت سیاسی و اجتماعی شیعیان در دوره امام عسکری (ع) و نقش آن حضرت در رهبری جامعه شیعه، نشان دادن سیره و زندگی امام عسکری(ع) در عرصه های مختلف فرهنگی، سیاسی و اجتماعی و نیز نمایاندن نقش امام عسکری(ع) در زمینه‌سازی برای دوران غیبت امام مهدی(عج) از اهمیت بسیاری برخوردار است که در این نوشته بدان پرداخته شده است. همچنین بیان شیوه‌های ارتباط این امام بزرگوار با شیعیان و اصحاب، رسیدگی به امور مادی و معنوی آنان، تربیت شاگردان و ارتباط با آنان، چگونگی تقویت و استمرار امور وکلا و سازمان وکالت در این دوره و بازگو کردن تعالیم و معارفی که از آن حضرت باقی مانده است از اهداف این تحقیق است.
