دوران حیات امام باقر8(۵۷-۱۱۴ق) چالشی‌ترین عصر تاریخ اسلام است. آغاز زندگی ایشان با فاجعه کربلا همزمان شد؛ در کودکی، به همراه پدرشان امام سجاد(ع)شاهد شهادت جدش امام حسین(ع) و اسارت خاندان وحی بود. پدرشان با پرهیز از منازعات سیاسی و با توسل به دعا، به احیای سنت نبوی و علوی و مبارزه با حاکمیت جور پرداخت. امام باقر(ع) ادامه‌دهنده این رسالت بود و نقشی بنیادین در تحولات فرهنگی و علمی جامعه ایفا کرد. باوجود فشار حکومت اموی، به تبیین احکام و معارف دینی پرداخت، علوم اسلامی را گسترش داد و بسترساز شکوفایی تمدن اسلامی شد. اثر حاضر با عنوان «شناخت‌نامه تاریخ و سیره زندگانی امام باقر(ع)» به واکاوی شخصیت آن امام می‌پردازد. در این مجموعه، ویژگی‌های فردی، مقام امامت، کرامات، دانش بی‌پایان، اجمالی از فضایل عبادی و جایگاه علمی ایشان از دیدگاه معصومان، اصحاب و حتی خاورشناسان بررسی شده است.

The era of Imam al-Baqir's (peace be upon him) life (57-114 AH) represents the most challenging period in the history of Islam. The beginning of his life coincided with the tragedy of Karbala; during his childhood, alongside his father, Imam al-Sajjad (peace be upon him), he witnessed the martyrdom of his grandfather, Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), and the captivity of the Household of Revelation. His father, by avoiding political conflicts and through supplication, dedicated himself to reviving the Prophetic and Alid tradition and combating the tyrannical rule. Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) continued this mission and played a fundamental role in the cultural and scientific developments of society. Despite the pressure from the Umayyad regime, he elucidated religious rulings and teachings, expanded the Islamic sciences, and laid the groundwork for the flourishing of Islamic civilization. The present work, titled "A Compendium for Recognizing the History and Conduct of the Life of Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him)," delves into an analysis of that Imam's character. In this collection, his personal attributes, the station of his Imamate, his miraculous acts, his boundless knowledge, an outline of his devotional virtues, and his scholarly standing are examined from the perspectives of the Infallible Imams (peace be upon them), his companions, and even Orientalists
